Mikey is one of those rare individuals who knew from an early age that they wanted to one day become a hairstylist. There is a picture of me as a five-year-old playing with a hair salon kit. Quite literally, I am doing exactly what I have always wanted to do—work with hair. I feel fortunate to have a career I am passionate about, working with people I enjoy and clients I adore.
Industry Experience
As a skilled and talented stylist since 2012, Mikey, a Texas native, has a deep desire for creating gorgeous hair and connecting with clients on an emotional level. His dedication to his craft is one of many reasons he continues to evolve and expand his knowledge through advanced certification. Mikey is recognized and accredited in Keune color training, smoothing systems, and Ola Plex +3 education.
To help you get to know Michael a little better, we asked him to share some information about himself.
What do you believe your role is in the world around you?
“Mainly, I love helping people look and feel like the best version of themselves. When a guest looks in the mirror after I have colored or styled their hair and goes, “Wow!” I feel like I am doing what I was put on this earth to do.”
Do you have any skills or talents most people would not know you have?
“It would be music video games – the dancing ones. I am obsessed with games like Dance Revolution and love playing them. But what gives me the edge is that I picked up the Japanese alphabet pretty easily. This lets me read comments in forums, reviews, and even the companies’ game descriptions to improve my playing abilities. Hmmmm. Maybe my real talent is learning the Japanese alphabet.”

Formally trained in 1990 at Vidal Sassoon in Chicago, Deklynd’s career path has been varied and exciting.

Having a love of learning and teaching, Deklynd became an Educator with Wella and was with the company for more than 10 years. His passion for perfection, along with his sharp eye and talent, soon opened up other opportunities including working hair shows with creative directors Christopher and Sonja Dove.
