Deklynd Channing recognized his passion for hairstyling when he saw the similarities between hair design and art. At heart, I am an artist. Hair is my art element; color and sheers are my tools. When I look at the hair and skin tone of my guest, I see a canvas. This lets me create a tailored color palette that, when combined with a healthy hair design, brings to focus the unique self-expression of each guest.

As a salon owner, it is important to me that from the moment a guest enters our full-service salon, they receive a one-of-a-kind experience. Drawing inspiration from art, music, and touches of classic vintage glamour, we strive to create an ambiance that is inviting, feels safe, and relaxing yet contains effervescent creative energy.

His creativity and attention to detail have made him am Austin stand out

Formally trained in 1990 at Vidal Sassoon in Chicago, Deklynd’s career path has been varied and exciting. In 1997, while honing his creative cutting and styling skills with the renowned Pascal Pour Elle, he commuted between Chicago and Austin’s Bella salon and did so for many years. Having a love of learning and teaching, Deklynd became an educator with Wella and was with the company for more than 10 years. His passion for perfection, along with his sharp eye and talent, soon opened up other opportunities, including working hair shows with creative directors Christopher and Sonja Dove.

Deklynd’s extraordinary talents, combined with his passion for perfection, gave him the chance to work behind the scenes on the Oprah Winfrey, Jenny Jones, and Rachel Ray shows, giving guests makeovers. As a talented stylist, he enjoyed a long and illustrious career working on sets styling models and actors for movies, television, and print media.

Industry Recognition

In 2002, Deklynd earned the title of Master Colorist, and in 2008, Austin Monthly recognized him as the city’s top colorist. While working as Kendra Scott’s hairdresser, he was one of three to be named an A-List Hairdresser by Tribeza Magazine. His artistic vision and technical versatility earned him print work in popular publications: Tribeza Austin Curated, and Austin Woman magazines.

With a strong reputation and following as a sought-after top colorist, Deklynd opened the doors to his Keune concept salon, Deco Blue Salon, in 2017. His previous Austin, Texas, salon, Deklynd Channing Hair Design, was a private studio.

Deklynd enjoys sharing his passion for color and cuts as an educator with new and experienced stylists and colorists throughout Texas.

To help you get to know Deklynd a little better, we asked him to share some information about himself.

What is your guilty pleasure?

“I love chocolate and peanut butter, but not necessarily together. The best part, both of these are healthy for you. LOL.”

What would you do, or would like to do, even if you didn’t get paid to do it?

“I have a green thumb, so working in a greenhouse is something I think I would enjoy. I love gardening and the thought of tending to plants would be a fun career change. There is something satisfying about growing and cultivating orchids, roses, and houseplants.”
